Does Tony Blair believe?
Does Tony Blair, and his cabinat colleagues really believe that Iraq has nothing to do with the new anti-British actions by radical Islamic groups.
Only listen to the views of young men being interviewed to hear that this is nonsense. So do politicians say things they know not to be true or is the truth to depressing so they convince themselves that they are telling the truth.
We see the same phenomenon over and over again, Clinton with respect to Lewinsky, Bush over Rove. It seems to stretch belief too far to think he had no idea that Rove was linked to the leak so why deny it.
Perhaps the longer they have power the more convinced they become in their own infailibility (is the spelling right) and so they think that they can lie for the greater good and, more importantly, that they will not be found out. How else do we understand the behaviour, I don't think that they start their careers as cheats but it just seems to happen. Their excuse is often that they have to make hard decisions and that we, Joe Public, don't appreciate how hard it is. But if they made the effort to explain perhaps we would. If they don't explain then we certainly do not understand.
Anothet example is the recent bombings and the proposed change in the laws. Since nobody seemed to know anything about the bombers how will these proposed new laws make any difference. Also since at no point did they attempt to hide their identity would identity cards have made any difference?
One supposes that the cuase they were dying for seems more important than their lives, but Christian martyrs believed that to. One presumes that Mr Blair & Mr Bush and their acolytes belive that it is worth sacrificing other peoples lives for their causes, which is the more cowardly action? Since all of these people have one thing in common, a belief in a monotheistic religion they believe their god (or should it be gods) will judge them. My own views are fairly obvious.
